Pros
- Tight controls
- Large roster
- Unique characters
Cons
- Missing a few playable characters from the original Tekken titles
Tekken Tag Tournament is a fighting game that's a spin-off of the original Tekken series. While it includes some of the main characters from the series, it still manages to have a completely different feel than the main games. Those who might have played any of the previous titles won't feel that the gameplay is at all stale as a result.
If that weren't enough, then the developers have also included some slightly offbeat bonus modes in the hopes of further encouraging players to think of Tekken Tag Tournament as something different. For instance, you could bowl instead of fight your adversaries, though chances are that most people will enjoy the core game much more than any of these additional features.
Fortunately, the actual fighting is top notch. Each limb of a character is controlled by a single button, which are all displayed across the bottom of your tablet's UI. While it's not as easy to play as it might be with a real controller, you shouldn't have much difficulty mastering this method of fighting. A convenient directional pad is also placed next to these action buttons, which makes it easy to leap and slide across your environments.
According to the game's script, a number of characters from the previous Tekken titles were assembled to compete in an even more prestigious tournament than before. You'll have your choice of literally dozens of different martial artists to enter into the tournament. As the name suggests, you'll also be free to assemble different teams even if the individual characters suffer from alignment conflicts. Putting together good and evil characters can actually make for a pretty intense gaming experience.
